She's actually called a "cow" and the baby is her "calf." But you can call her an "elephantess" or "elephantina" if you'd like; she won't mind.

Brings to mind Jurassic Park II, the book. A hunter is saying that he wants to shoot a "bull tyrannosaurus." Funny. Tyrannosaurus came in "gracile" and "robust," and we don't know which one was the bull, so Crichton messed up. The hunter should have wanted to shoot a "robust" one.
