I have a 18 month old Trek 4400, and have just up graded to a Scott [full bouncer], and if this takes abuse that the Trek has I'll be well pleased...
Good choice, although I'd advise against cable discs....
Get hydraulics or save money a get the V-brake model.....
To get the sizing wright you should have the seat raised, so that when you sit on it, your leg should be straight, with your heal on the the pedal when at its lowest point. And there should be about 8 inches of set post maximum from the frame, and an inch Clearance between your growing and the top tube...

It's a nice bike. Have you tried it for size? I think Trek hardtails are pretty good bikes for their price. Good luck!

stay away from disc breaks, better of with v breaks
