No I wouldn't get upset about it but I would definitely will have a talk with her and ask her what is important to this relationship. Tell her straight forward that you might not be able to give her all the stuff that she would like to have and ask her how does she feel about it. Do this now before it gets too late.

Yes I would (if I were you). It's insulting.
What would I do? I will talk to her about it, and if she is still defending herself, it could be a sign that she's not the right person. I mean you could just throw the part about "for richer for poorer" out of the window.
However, if you talk to her and she realize that what she did was unfair, and she apologizes, then maybe things can work out for both of you. Don't make her return the ring after she apologizes. Just make sure you work towards paying back the $700-$140 dollars, so it looks like you bought the ring she liked.

Who buys there own engagement ring that is just crazy. That wouldn't feel like an engagement, she bought her self a ring, how does that even involve you in your engagement?
Plus, I think if she cared about you she would wait until you could get her one at least longer then what she did.
So when you get married? And she wants to get preg. and you don't want kids she just going to go out and get preg. and come back and be like yes so were having a baby now. Haha, didn't even include you.
I would find that very mean what she did. Anyway tradition is that the guy is supose to find a ring and buy it and put it on the one he loves. The reason why they wear it on the finger they do is because their a major vein their that goes str8 to the heart.

I would be. The ring should be a token of your love not a fashion statement. I know some people who got really nice sterling silver bands with Native orcas on them and they are actually thumbrings instead of the traditional rings. I think this showed their love for each other way more symbolically than some expensive gaudy thing. Sorry your lady is more concerned about making a statement to others than showing her devotion to you.

I would be very upset, she has no respect for your gift or wishes, she more or less saying YOU are not good enough for her, thats dirty, that so wrong, A ring is a ring, and with an attitude like that, she should feel lucky to be getting one at all, instead of buying herself one, she should have got you a males engagement ring, you need to step up to your plate and speak to her about this rationally

If I were a guy, I would get very upset. It's not about the price of the ring, but the heart that I've made an effort to buy the ring should be of prime importance.(I should tell her about this)
She must be a lady who likes to show-off.
If I were you, I would request to get my ring back, as she doesn't put much importance to it as I do. Afterall, she has bought one herself, and need not that one.

i was bought £30 engagement ring for my first and i was happy. Later we had both saved and got a £200 ring. Its the thought that counts. I would probably get upset my self if my partner didn't like it cause it was "cheep" If she still wears the one you bought on another finger i probley wouldent be upset.

Why would she buy herself one? is she engaged to herself? i mean really! lol
I suppose she just couldnt wait to get something more expensive on her finger... too bad. I think you have a right to be upset. You even said you would get her a nicer ring so what is she trying to prove?

That's stupid!!
I could careless if my boyfriend gave me a ring from one of those stupid gum machines! Why can't people be happy with what their given?!
Seriously what's important is who gives it to you and the emotional meaning behind it not how expensive it is or how it looks!

Yea i think I'd be upset if I were you. I mean seriously the price of the ring shouldn't matter the meaning behind the ring is what should matter.
