Yes it is strange, but it has a psychological background to it. (except when God comes in, that's not logical in that row!,)
it is said that to prepare your children from the harsh reality of life, "Not everything you're told is necessarily true". When parents do that to a child it apparently has more impact and the lesson will not be forgotten....

I don't necessarily believe this to be true but I've heard this theory often... And a child does not experience it the same as we do, we would definitely leave if 2 lies were told about something special...

Our parents have been caught red handed pretending to be Santa and the tooth fairy but no one has been caught playing God. Even Jesus was only the Son of God.So God is still out there!

So your saying that God ranks up there with Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy?

Yes that is true...So many parents tell their children that santa, the tooth fairy and many more fairy tales are true and when they grow up they have this conception that if they can lie to me about that then they lied to me about God...sad isnt it....However, that is where I have always taught my children that their is no santa or anything like that ...but there is a God, and that is who created them..which is the truth... I am sorry if that happened to you but there really is a God and he loves you. If you ever get a chance open the Bible and read about him.

If you get to high school maybe you can learn that there was really a guy who we now say is Santa Clause. He didn't fly around with reindeer but would drop small bags of coins in the windows of houses of the poor. BTW if you ever get to SOHO in NYC, you may see a lot of "tooth fairies" flitting around. LOL

Is'nt it strange how we want someone else to take the credit for giving presents to others, for being loving and generous, we masquerade it as from a force outside ourselves.

The flipside being when things go wrong, it is an act of God, of someone else's doing. Then there's fate, an excuse to do nothing and wait to see what happens.

Though I adore Xmas, but would'nt miss santa claus.

It could be said that God is an imaginary friend for grownups.

That aside, don't put the Tooth Fairy in the same league as God, he won't like it.

When my child was in school she was told Santa was real, and that God wasn't..

She could study the Koran, but not the Bible.

The school would say a prayer before the football game but prohibit children from praying in school.

lying to children is child abuse. there's no reason i can see why we shouldn't make such a disgusting tradition illegal.

plus,,, i'm not talking from stats here, but doesn't it seem that people who are raised with the idea of santa clause are more likely to believe in god??,, at least here in america anyway?? --- many jews end up becoming atheists. i've heard that there are other reasons for this, but i don't know if this theory here should be dismissed quite so fast.

think about it. if you have two children, and both are taught to believe in god, but then one of the children is taught to believe in santa clause in addition to god, then doesn't it stand to reason that the one who believes in santa clause will be more likely to believe in god too??

for a child, it's gotta be way easier to believe in santa than in god. i mean,,, santa delivers,,, literally. children have "proof" of santa., physical toys and half eaten cookies. god on the other hand, is not quite as convincing. he's supposed to take care of people, and yet entire continents of children starve, etc. no one can describe what he looks like (which i'd imagine is super important for a kid), and he doesn't answer prayers.,,, but santa clause does.

so then, any child can plainly see,,, if someone as magical as santa clause clearly does in fact exist, then why is it so hard to believe that god exists too?? santa clause's "proven" existence in fact, actually opens up a wide door for all sorts of crazy supernatural ideas to be true. --- a child who does not believe in santa clause though, has to make a tremendous leap of faith in order to believe in god.

later, the child who believed in santa stops believing because he is told by many people (which is the key) that santa isn't real. the belief in god however is a vestigial side effect, fortified by the fact that so many people tell him that god is real. (remember,,, that part's key.)
