i agree. i don't believe that anyone should tell me what i should eat. if i want to go out and eat the biggest greasiest burger, with the largest order of fries and a mega sized soda it is nobodies business but my own. i am the only person who has to live with my body image and health, not some congressman who is already half mad from eating nothing but twigs and mud.

The government has been and always will be trying to "help" us. They assume that we cannot make good choices for ourselves. Additionally, the government likes to make money -- so they make up lots of rules that they can fine people for not following.
The cigarette tax is a perfect example of this. I don't smoke and I never would but I think the taxes on tobacco are incredibly high. They are there as the government trying to make a ton of money under the guise of trying to encourage people to make healthy choices.
Another reason that the government tends to take over things like this is that many American refuse to have personal responsibility. If you burn yourself on coffee -- sue them. If you fall down on the sidewalk -- sue them. If you get too fat -- sue them. If we really want to be able to make our own choices, we also have to accept the consequences of making bad choices -- and that, my friend, is not the American way.
We live in a land where freedom is an ideal, but not necessarily a reality.

And children are becoming OB also which is leading no alot more cases of diabities in young children. and that is not to even mention what it does to them emotionaly.

yeah, if thats all there was to it, but hey you are part of a country that has to look after itself, no good you all being too fat to work efficiently, is it?
I mean if you all go and die early through heart disease, you are really going to need all those immigrants just to keep the place running, turn enough $ to fund the army to keep it how you want.
in less antagonistic words: you are part of society, that society expects certain duties from you, it would seem that one of those duties your society has chosen is to be healthy

Another fine example of the Bush/Cheney regime working toward a totalitarian state in this country.

Well said.
Remember, though, the issue here is not whether or not proper hamburgers are available (may they always be!), but that the government is dictating our behavior and limiting our choices FOR us.
This is lifestyle censorship, and I abhor it.

Because there are too many fat people in the US and they're making their children that way too. Someone has to do something.
