Why does the audio echo or get garbled in my Quicktime player (windows machine)?

Question

WindowsXP, QuickTime 7.04, No echo happens in other players (wmp, real, itunes etc.), "Safe Mode" (waveOut only) is on. I have fooled around switching audio devices for playback but none of the 3 have worked (playback through TotalRecorder, SoundMax Digital Audio, Tunebite High-Speed Dubbing).
Please answer/suggest something if you can. This is very annoying. THANKS!!

I get the same problem when ever I have two players going at the same time (say, WMP and Musicmatch JukeBox).

I bet you've some some audio software that is trying to play that clip in the background and you don't know about it. When this occurs try pressing CTRL/ALT/DELETE at the same time. This will bring up the Windows Task manager and look at the applications tab this will tell you what applications are running. You may have
