My mother has been reading several true life stories and they are horrifying. Things like women who are left alone with a man for longer than a few moment get arrested or even killed for being immoral and tempting. Women who neglect to wear the requisite clothing or behave in the way their religion think they ought are being punished severely even today. I've read a news article VERY recently exposing the unfortunate current trend for Muslim families in certain religiously-dense areas to either kill their "sinful" women or convince them to commit suicide in order for the family to preserve "honor". It's not just the purdah... it's a terrorized LIFE.

Women wear it because women's beauty distracts men from they're duty to Allah. Also since Islam includes the old testament they also believe the Genesis story of creation and the role women played in original sin.

Christianity and Judism the women also covered their heads.. Nowhere do you find this rule was abolished.. Its just modern times folks choose to go against religion and uncover... Its actually a covering of beauty to protect your modesty.. To prevent men from lusting after you. It keeps down evils, rape, etc.

You don't get it. It's a way for men to dominate women. They don't allow women to drive or hold most jobs. They must be veiled when they go our into public and few are educated. In this way, they are little more than sexual slaves. What I don't understand are the western women who willingly accept these rules.

- Muslim women observe HIJAB (covering the head and the body) because Allah has told them to do so.
Many Muslim women who cover are filled with dignity and self esteem; they are pleased to be identified as a Muslim woman as a chaste, modest, pure woman, so that men would not think of them in sexual .

Most Muslim women choose to wear it, just as Christians choose to wear crosses. It's a source of pride.

what is a pardah, not all women cover, its her choice, and men
can't wear shorts above their knees, nor can they show their belly buttons, Muslim women dress modest because we don't want to encourage sexual attention, that's only for our husbands
if i don't dress modest i feel uncomfortable
