Are you Trying to get off of the Xanax and the beer?
I'm pretty sure that you have gotten use to the effects of both - meaning if you take one (beer) for exp. you need the other (xanax).
You do get tolerant to the effects of alcohol, but your body does not become immune. You may be immune to a certain amount of alcohol, but no...
The same with Xanax.
Note: It is not safe to quit cold turkey. Withdrawal from Xanax and alcohol can be dangerous, causing seizures, DTs, and even death.
The best way is to wean yourself off by gradually decreasing your doses of Xanax and beer.
Drinking plenty of water is a healthy thing, esp. since alcohol robs the body of fluids. Consider weaning yourself off with a different type of benzo such as Ativan(lorazepam) it works well and is less addictive that Xanax.

Xanax and beer, you must have been feeling good for a little while. Yes, your body becomes immune to them and I don't know what the hell the nurse means by drinking too much water. You need professional help getting off the Xanax and beer. That's not something you can do by yourself.
