Good Question. They feel superior and that in order to protect their position they must be hostile to the rest of the world.

That is ridiculous! Americans as a whole are not xenophobic. That is like asking why are Americans so claustrophobic. Just because you say it, doesn't make it so. We are a country of immigrants. We accept that.
If you are trying to ask, why Americans are against ILLEGAL immigration, that is a completely different issue.
I think you just wanted to show off the new word you learned from your "Hooked on Phonics" C.D.
BTW xenophobic is not a proper noun and did not need to be capitalized.

I wish I had a good answer. I'll give you my opinion, for what it's worth. I think it comes from a lack of interest in the out side world that leads to a lack of knowledge that can ultimately lead to a fear of the unknown. For example it's amazing how little a lot of people know about the culture and history of the middle east. Then wham, 9/11 happens and all of a sudden we are being threatened by people we know nothing about. For a long time people felt, and it was largely true, that the two oceans isolated and protected us from the rest of the world. That isolation made us feel safer. However that hasn't been true for a long time, since at least world War II. People still cling to the feeling that if they ignore the outside world, the world outside the US, then any evils will stay out as well. Another reason could be the sheer size of this country. You can get in your car in the US, drive for a week in one direction, and still be in the US. If you do that in Europe you would go through a dozen countries. I think it's easy therefore for a lot of Americans to view the US as the whole world, or at least all the world they need.

I don't think most Americans are xenophobic. That is a label that is giving to anyone who dares to believe we should have secure borders.
Although most of us descended from Immigrants, Most of them got here Legally. It's the Illegal aliens that we don't want here. First of all they are showing they have no respect for our laws by being here illegally.
Second ,they feel that they can take cuts in front of all those who are trying to get here the right way.
third, all countries have a right to secure borders and control of same. Try to go to another country illegally and see what happens.

How are americans xenophobic? We've got immigrants from around the world, you name a country, they've got at least one family that's been in the country for generations. The problem/obstacle/issue of dispute is ILLEGAL immigration.
As in 'you can't come to our country illegally anymore, either'.
Legal immigration is all good and fine, but what we've got now is a mess, if you don't see that, chances are it might be useful to read more about it. Specifically, read about the whole industry that's cropped up in mexico to sell drugs and basically sell people, too, into the United States. Personally, I oppose slavery, wage-slavery, or otherwise. Mexico and other countries need to reform themselves, and so do we in regards to immigration enforcment. Be sure to pass on to your senator/congressman YOUR support for immigration enforcement. Legal ONLY....

Good question! Because they seem to have this sense of superiority over other races coming from the fact that most of their ancestors came from a European (Anglo) background. They came here with an attitude that they adopted from the British, Spanish and Germans that they could and WOULD conquer inferior groups of people and colonize (wipe out, destroy, obliterate) and teach the heathens (those who didn't believe in or know about Christianity) a thing or two about Christianity in the name of Jesus Christ. (Sound familiar?)
In reality, what they were after was land and gold.(Sound familiar?) That is how the Aztecs, Mayans, Olmecs, American Indians, Aborigines, African Americans, Mexicans and many, many, many other people met their fate and WHY humanitarians are so angry about racism and the problems that exist concerning immigration in our country today. And, why so many people object to the war in Iraq.
What right do we have in forcing what we call "democracy" on another country?
What many of you seem to ignore is the amount of $ the "wetbacks" leave on the table when they go back home to live. They never use their social security benefits. Rarely do they use any of their benefits at all. Where do you get your information that they use up all of our resources? I'd like to see the evidence of this. I keep hearing it, but no one has ever produced any #'s.

It's an interesting question when you think just how few Americans are native Americans. I suspect it has to do with how few travel. 95% of Europeans hold passports and only 7% of Americans do. I also find it staggering when I am in The states how little international news is reported. Americans tend to be suspicious of other nationalities whereas we Europeans who are much more widely travelled have come to recognise that though there are cultural differences, people are people.

Xeno is the great evil one of scientology. It is only natural that we fear Xeno.
"Scientology's processes go farther, to release us from engrams implanted in past lives and carried over to the present. One well-known example is the so-called Incident Two: seventy-five million years ago the emperor of the Galactic Federation, a despot named Xeno, solved overpopulation on his planet by freezing its inhabitants, shipping them to Earth in spacecraft resembling DC-8s, and dropped them into volcanoes in Hawaii and other places. He then detonated the volcanoes with atomic bombs and captured the suddenly-disembodied Thetans with an electronic device. The hapless Thetans were then forcibly restrained and implanted with movies. The themes of these movies acted as a sort of racial post-hypnotic suggestion and ultimately manifested themselves in the form of twentieth-century British culture. Why Xeno couldn't just shoot his excess population isn't actually explained."

why would you assume that we are. I think that most people that are against illegal immigrants feel that way because they are ILLEGAL! I for one have nothing wrong with the immigrants that come to this country the RIGHT way, don't disrespect our traditions and customs, and speak our language.
I really don't understand why our country is soooo bad for wanting that. Really, what other country doesn't have standards like that? I am not asking anyone to forget where they come from or even make them stop speaking the language. BUT when they go to our schools, our businesses, our resturants... PLEASE speak english. It is just a matter of respect!

Because some of the immigrants come over here and use our public goods without contributing tax dollars or obey our laws by registering as legal aliens. Also there were 19 hi-jackers who were immigrants that came over here about 5 years ago and killed about 3000 people.
