also how fancy does a BOS have to be. i have not yet gotten one but right now i am filling sprial note books up with definitions, herb cooking, and potions. and what kind of writing tool should be used for BOS. for writing just notes and definitions in my note books i use a pencil, but i feel BOS should be special.

I don't know of anyone who looks down on kitchen witches. I do know plenty of people who frown on people using the title of "Wiccan" and then refuse to investigate exactly what Wicca is. A kitchen witch is something totally different than that though, and perhaps they are confusing you with the former. I suppose that most of my magic would be considered kitchen witchery and I don't have any issues with Neo-wiccans, Wiccans, or CM's.

Advise? Make sure to know your herbs. A formal course in using them would probably be beneficial. Write down the sources for your information--you may really need them in the future. And mostly, enjoy what you do.

For your figurine question, I don't know. I did things the opposite way. I studied to find the goddess that I was drawn to most and then found something to represent her. Perhaps you may be interested in Brighid?

The supposed 'looking down' seems to be more a chip on the shoulder of relatively new Kitchen/Hedge/Eclectic witches. The British Traditional Wiccans I know don't look down on the rest of us; they simply follow a very different, much more formal tradition that has got mixed up in the public mind with what we non-trad witches of various practices do. I will say this, though; anyone who has years of practice behind her or him and has gained wisdom thereby deserves respect, no matter what their path. Experienced BTWs will acknowledge this as well.

I wish you well in your journey. I think you will enjoy the trip.

Uhhh... how about an actual Kitchen Witch? Maybe one blessed by a kitchen witch.

Covens are often just a clique for magickal snobbery. They don't like Crones either and as a poet, crone magic made sense to me when I was still practicing, I have quite the book of shadows. and I came by it over years of dedicated practice with the help or influence of NO ONE!

Besides, Covens are often like bible study groups but with sex being the abused component rather than the collection plate... It can get lame really fast. They are often, no better than crooked preachers who use manipulation, competition and sexual prowess as bait for anyone who wants to practice.

That is probably why all the "lone practitioner." books are so abundant on the book store shelves as of late. Even the magical community deals with snobbery.

They don't believe kitchen witches are actual witches... as kitchen witches do not perform ritual magic. It's just working with herbs (among other things) and using them for their health benefits as well as spiritual symbolism.

Can't help you with the Goddess figurine thing. I don't have such things in my own home.

A BOS is merely a journal... I usually just use notebooks for all my info.
