Smell it- it should smell slightly fruity. Check the color- it should be light in color- if it is deep yellow or brown it is bad.

The best way to tell if white wine (or any wine) has gone bad is to take a tiny sip.
You can't really tell by looking. As white wines age, they do become darker in color; but they could be darker and still taste good.

If it has a sell by date... You should know from that it will taste like crap!
I just opened a bottle of Le Rime French Chardonnay from 2002.
and it was delicious!

it will have a slightly bad smell, go a weird yellow in colour and if it has a cork, the cork may be all broken and hard to get out

You smell it...if it doesn't smell funky, taste it. If it tastes ok to you, then you're fine.
There is no "sell by" date on wine.
