Being in the hair business, there is no rule for tipping the owner because the owner is the one that sets the prices in the salon and also receives additional income from renting space. You can tip the owner whatever you like based on their work and your relationship with the owner; however, the tipping rule only applies to a stylist that rents space at the salon.

Well I heard from a friend who gets her nails done that if the person is the owner you do not tip. I assume that would be the same case with a hairdresser as they are already making money off the profits anyhow so there is no need to tip them. BUT, if you feel it necessary to do so $10 is fine.

15-20% just as you would to any other stylist. Yes, he is the owner. Do you know what that means? He has to pay rent, insurance, pay for products, supplies, taxes, continuing education costs for himself and his employees, etc. More than most stylists. If he's a great stylist, it's worth it. If he's not or you're cheap, go to SuperCuts.
