I have a 1993 Ford Festiva. Everyday when I leave to go to work, at the first 2 stop signs there is a screaching sound when I use the brakes. Then there isn't any noise after that until I come home. But not as much as the morning. Sometime when I stop at the store there is a liitle screach when I apply brake first time. I had brakes checked at Midas and they couldn't find anything wrong.
ANY IDEAS???
THANKS.

never go to midas, they are dishonest.obviously ur brakes are fine or they would have found something to sell u. try braking really hard a few times to see if u can "break the glaze"on ur brake pads and rotors.do this after ur brakes are warm

In your case, It is just moisture from the condensation that collects on the pads when your car is sitting.
Using the brakes heats up the pads and burns off the condensation.

This is very normal, especially if your car sits outside all of the time.

It could also be dirt or dust buildup on the pads, but that would be more constant and would not go away after a couple of stop signs.

I agree with the brake dust, but I have to say no to the Moist brakes....Never seen it in all my25 years.
Try this...go to a car wash and wash the car with attention to the brakes and blast the calipers and pads.....THIS WILL NOT HURT THEM... Yes they will be wet but they heat up real fast, you will wash away excess brake dust. Also look at them see if there is at least 1/4" of pad left. if not it may be time anyway to get new pads put on......Good lick

It could be brake dust, and glazed over rotors, causing that noise till they are warmed up. Or could be the calipers aren't applying pressure to the pads squarely. Is a chance can do that too. Good luck.

Sounds like the calipers are starting to bind to the rotors.

Good luck finding calipers for a 93 Festiva.

that car is made by KIA (was made) notorious for cheap brakes . wouldn't surprise me for condensation to form a thin layer of rust over night which you knock off with the first few brake applications in the morning.

Brakes could be wet when first you use them and stop making noise when they dry out.
