Good question. Now I believe that writing in a journal is a way to sort out your thoughts and put down any ideas you may have. It's an expression of your complete self and is a wonderful way to get things off your chest without ever telling anyone. I believe if everyone wrote in a journal, the world would actually be a better place. It soothes the mind and provides mental release. I say go for it!

It's okay if you haven't journaled in a couple of years. The same thing happens to me, I can write for months straight and then I feel i have nothing else to add to my journals. I always keep one around because you never know when you will want to spill your guts out. It's better than talking to a friend (sometimes),.

If you don't think keeping a journal would be of any use to you personally but you still want to do it,then think about this. Someday, a descendent of yours will discover a journal you kept and recorded what was happening in the world and in your life in the distant past. You will be offering a chronology and a viewpoint that might be different than what they read in history books and giving them a valuable tool for creative thought. Genealogy is one of my hobbies and I would give anything to have an ancestors personal diary so I could get to know someone who is now just a name to me. I am a firm believer in leaving behind a bit of yourself for posterity.

I just read May Sarton's journal titled At Seventy, so journaling can be insightful at any age.
Pick up some books on journaling at your public library. They will have some exercises to get you to tap into your thinking and emotions more.

Everyone has problems or something that they just wanna put it on paper. Even when your 50-60. So I don't think your too old to have a journal. And what does it matter, it's your life, it's up to you, not any1 else.

go for it. I am 50 and still keep a journal that hopefully my daughters will read after I am gone and they will know that I always loved them no matter how mad they were at me. maybe just one thing you write may not mean much to you but it could completely change someones life for the better. never be ashamed of writing your feelings. it is alot better than acting out in anger.

Journaling is a great way to just get things out - they don't have to make sense - I encourage you to continue to journal your entire life!

I think journaling helps us get our thoughts organized. I use my journal things as reference and as a place to brainstorm, vent, and just think about things. I don't think there is an age that is "too old."
