Yes. Most head injuries occur in cars. There is a bill in committee to make helmets and airbags mandatory in all cars that travel US highways or Interstates.

only if the helmet was full face. most injuries come from hitting the steering wheel with your face. you'd be somewhat safer from those types of injuries but still susceptible to whiplash, side impacts, and broken glass.
