Yes. Most head injuries occur in cars. There is a bill in committee to make helmets and airbags mandatory in all cars that travel US highways or Interstates.

only if the helmet was full face. most injuries come from hitting the steering wheel with your face. you'd be somewhat safer from those types of injuries but still susceptible to whiplash, side impacts, and broken glass.

The answer is no. It would make your head dangerously heavy in a crash and snap your neck like a twig. Dale Earnhardt died this way.

Maybe. But with all the modern safety features you don't need one unless you are driving in motorsports.

A helmet would or could obstruct your peripheal vision if you're driving with it on !
