Very few religions except for the Catholic, and Orthodox church, and a few others openly teach AGAINST ALL FORMS OF BIRTH CONTROL.

"But onan knew the offspring would not be his, so when he went into his brother's wife he spilled the semen to the ground, lest he should give offspring to his brother. And what he did was displeasing to the Lord....and he killed him. Genesis 38:9-10

Is birth control a sin, or is it ok?

YES it is a sin...God made it to be that u should only have sex to reproduce....not for fun. It is supposed to be a special thing between two ppl that truly love eachother and only marraige can prove true love.

Well....I think Ali is waaaaayy wrong in saying that God didn't intend for sex to be fun between a man and a woman. Plus I think you have to take that verse of the Bible in the context with which it was intended....and maybe this will surprise you.....I truly believe every last detail that the Bible says is true...even Creation....and the last part as well (Revelation). Sometimes I think Christians don't take a step back to consider the bigger story behind a selection of the Bible. The reason God was displeased was because Onan didn't continue the lineage of his brother's family, not specifically because he spilled semen. People use that verse to deem masturbation as a sin as well, when in fact it's the lusting in their heart that makes it morally questionable. God would have been displeased as well if he didn't even attempt to continue the tradition of taking his brother's wife, since brother's wife was a widow. Consider that maybe God gave man the knowledge and technology to prevent unwanted pregnancies or the spread of disease like AIDS or other STD's. He probably already knew that a lot of people weren't going to naturally conform to whatever moral standards some self-righteous individuals think is appropriate because they live in a narrow-minded existence.

I think it depends on if you are a literal interpreter of the Bible, which I am not.

I think it is weird how people assume that birth control is only used outside of marriage. Many, many people who are married use birth control. It is responsible to wait until you are mentally and hopefully financially ready to raise a child. I think God would be more offended by a poor married couple who have eight kids and no way to feed them than he would be by a couple who uses birth control and can take good care of the one child they have had (and the countless others they have prevented having using birth control). God gave us brains so we could use them, and not reproduce like a bunch of farm animals.

And for those who would cite natural family planning as an alternative, I'd like to introduce them to Hannah, Bekkah, Claire, Evan, and Colby, five little children I know who were conceived by parents practicing the not-so-reliable NFP method.

If sex is OK purely for procreation, then intimacy in a couple incapable of having children is a sin. All post menopausal women and their husbands are going to that great pit as well as anyone who cannot conceive due to health or whatever. Does anyone see how absurd all these "rules" are?

Good question. It's also good that we live under grace. That's my wishy washy way of saying I don't know the answer to your question but I have practiced birth control measures within the confines of marriage in my life.

Preventing conception is different then destroying a fertalized egg. The verse you site also includes the act of adultry, which adds to the punishment.

well,1) having a kid every year is not the most environment friendly action to do.2) women have to protect themselves so i cannot think of it as a sin.

Based on the Bible? Yes it is a sin.

But I don't follow the Bible that closely. God can do anything including overriding any birth control. So if He really wants me to have another child, He'll make it happen regardless.

For this time and age, it is according to man. The only thing that is a sin according to what I understand of the matter is Abortion, which translates to Murder 1, secondly, You should be chaste (Old english for no sex before marriage).
