i used to be a muslim. but i am no longer so. i want a new life, new begining and not be associated with anything linked to my old life.
is there such an option to write "atheist" in the passport or it always has to mention a religion?
and could it be changed the next time i update my passport after it expires?
does changing your name takes time? and are there any rules as to choose your name?

In the US, your passport does not have a "religion" field. At least, mine (renewal issued this year) does not.

What country are you in that requires you to identify your religion?

Under religion you simply write non-denominational. If you want to change your name, you have to do it legally through a registrar's office.
