if you have a tape stereo, you can get a cord with a 3.5mm headphone jack on each side (from radioshack, or probably even Wal-Mart) and connect your stereo to the line-in plug on the back of your computer. Now you play the tape while use software to record it. You can use "Audacity" it's free will do everything. You want to check the recordings to make sure it sounds good before you go taping the whole cassette. Ok, now you've got one big long recording you need to split up into tracks. I think with audacity, you select (highlight) with the mouse, the audio section of a song, and go to edit > export selection as a file/track. That will create a track. You want to do that with all the tracks, then burn them all to a cd.

You use either RCA to 1/8th TRS cable or whatever your tape player's out's are, to 1/8th trs (stereo cable) and plug it into the LINE-IN port of your sound card, and just adjust your recording software to record through Line-In. What kind of softwares? there's real cheap ones like MP3 Audio Mixer (www.acoustica.com) all you would do is press play, and hit record on the program, and wait till the track is done playing and then press stop.
