Male or female? Fixed or not? New puppy/cat/baby or anything in the house? Did you recently move? Did another animal go on the rug? Lots of things can cause a dog to do this. I have a husky too, and she definitely knows when I'm stressed which causes her stress - although instead of using the rugs for a toilet she usually starts chewing on the coffee table, or getting into other things, but she is older. They are smart dogs, he/she will stop soon, but try and find out why.

Best of luck. My opinion is that regression is linked to stress (people and animals regress to a previous stage as a defense against new experiences they are stressed about -- a move, new job, etc. is very stressful so a person or animal will go backwards to try to find a place they feel comfortable). Often children will regress just before they master a new skill like walking, total potty training, etc.

After you wash it , don't put it down..........See what he does then. Just don't forget to remind him by going to the door and calling him sometime.....Maybe you should do that more often. If he continues to go indoors, I would let him see your vet.....ALSO I just learned that my friends dog was on a diet dog food because of his weight......Well guess what????Their dog drank water constantly...I mean for 2 minutes without stopping.....COME to find out, just like people diet food, the manufacturers also add tons of sodium in diet dog food as well just to make it taste good..

Call a vet. It could indicate a medical problem, especially if your dog previously went "potty" outside.
