I believe it is a disorder, not a disease. And like any other disorder, it can be debilitating, but not necessarily physically. It's hard to explain to someone who has never experienced it, so I won't try. Just know that with the right understanding and medication, it doesn't have to be something that stands in your way of a very "normal" life. Don't let people intimidate you, some disorders need medication, just as some diseases do. It is not a weakness to use whatever means to accomplish an end.

Schizphrenia is not a disease. It's an attitude some have that society doesn't agree with and they want to bury that attitude. They do whatever they can do hide the attitude even to the point of calling it a disease. If one don't accept the Schizo label some will call them Psycho instead. What the heck is the differences? Pain that comes from the labelling or insults. I don't believe there is any Schizophrenia or Psycho diseases.. it's all a matter of attitude not disease!

It can be painful at times because you may feel isolated from all the people that you know. Your not the first person to feel this way ask your case worker to find you a local chapter of NAMI.

Its not a disease, its a disorder. A disease is caused by an outside being such as a virus and or bacteria.
