My best friend wants to date his step-sister. His father and step-mother got married when he was 18 and now he his 25. He says that since he was out of the house at 18 and never really knew her as his "sister" that this is OK. I think that this would be akward for his family. What do you think?

Well it's less ethically questionable if he was never really a brother. But keep in mind that if she was younger when their parents married there is still some potential her bonding in a sisterly way to him.

This just seems like a really bad idea. It's like dating people you work with only worse. In a normal relationship when it goes bad you can just walk away. Here these people will always be a part of his life. Imagine Christmas, or thanksgiving with the man or woman you broke you heart. Now imagine it with his spouse and kids. I ask people who thinking about dating coworkers. Are you ready to find a new job if this goes bad? Is he ready to lose his family if this goes bad?

That would be akward. I wouldn't advise it. He would nd up getting hurt. Or she would. They would start avoiding each other when things got weird. And start dodging family functions so they wouldn't have to see eachother. They would end up hurting the entire family. I would just be friends with her. Just think of it like she is you sister and nothing else. Everyone will get hurt in the long run. So don't do it.

I mean technically they are not really siblings so it lowers the "gross factor", but still I think it would cause a lot of unnecessary drama in the family. Although they are not biologically connected they are still "a family". Tell your friend that there are more fish in the sea!

That's a touchy subject...how old is the girl? Does she still live at home? I personally wouldn't even consider it, but I guess if you can get past the hurdles and jokes then by all means go for it. If your best friend really likes her and he thinks they can make it work more power to him
