I think you're right that early detection is very important. If there was a way to diagnose someone BEFORE a psychotic episode, it would be much eaier for the patient and his/her family. Unfortunately, right now we do not have the capability to do so.
Perhaps the best way to detect it would be to provide better education to parents and families about mental illness, so that if their child begins to display symptoms, they can help them find treatment right away.
