Belive it or not about 5 yrs ago I made one out of card board from a cereal box and a paper towel tube. Same thing as you need. Worked like a charm. I hot glue it together. I couldn't find one at the time and thought it would be easy to make one. Took about 30 mins to make it. I needed to take old home movies and put them on vcr. I still have it and still works.

If there are some OLD Television stations in your area, they may have some empty reels laying around.

i'd try the Sally. then too, we used to (before the Mall) have a great store that sold all kinds of used camera stuff. perhaps a bigger town will have one of those. heck, ya might even find a new after-market version. probably plastic though. good luck.
