I don't know if it's still popular but the idea of "hooking up" was almost anonymous sex. It was purely a one night stand and often in less time that one night.
Erica Jong wrote about the idea of a "zipless f**k" in Fear of Flying, so certainly the question might be not "does it happen" which it has since the beginning of time -- but when did it become accepted in our pop culture?

Yes they still do without knowing the name of the person. That is why some parents can not tell their children who their father was. Sad situation but I have seen it to many times.
Like one of those talk shows the girl had called in 3 different boys to do their DNA to see who the father was and it was not any of them and she was still trying to figure out "who dat baby daddy".

Yes they do. Everybody goes through the one night stand phase. It will pass.

I have never had one and hope I never will. For me to be able to perform well I need to feel comfortable with the person I am doing it with. I am sure other people do though.

I think when you are young it is quite common. As you get older, you get pickier, and you don't really like the thought of waking up next to someone you don't know.
