I have never heard of taking antibiotics for shingles. Shingles is a disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox.

An attack of shingles is often preceded by 3 or 4 days of chills, fever, and achiness. A crop of tiny blisters appear and the affected area becomes painful and sensitive to the touch. You may also get numbness, depression, tingling, shooting pains, fever, and headache. Shingles lasts 7 to 14 days. The blisters eventually form crusty scabs and drop off.

Here are supplements you should use:

L-Lysine - 500mg 2x's/day on an empty stomach. Do not take with milk. Take with 50mg vit. B6 and 100mg vit. C for better absorption. L-lysine is important for healing and for fighting the virus that causes shingles.

Vit. B-complex - 100mg 3x's/day - needed for nerve health and to counteract deficiencies.

Vit. B-12 - 1,000mcg 2x's/day - use lozenge or sublingual form

Zinc - 80mg daily for 1wk. then reduce to 50mg daily. Enhances immunity and protects against infection. Use zinc chelate lozenges for faster absorption.

Calcium plus magnesium - 1,500mg daily - for nerve function and healing and to combat stress. Use chelated form.

Kyolic Garlic - 2 caps 3x's/day with meals - Ecxellent for building the immune system.

Vit-A emulsion - 50,000 IU daily for 2 wks then reduce to 25,000 IU daily - Boosts the immune system and protects against infection.

Vit -D - 1,000 IU 2x's daily for 1 week then reduce to 400 IU daily - aids in tissue healing and is needed for calcium absorption.

Vit - E - 400-800 IU daily. Helps prevent formation of scar tissue. Can also open a capsule and apply the oil directly to the affected areas of skin.

I know this sounds like alot but I would go this route to try to prevent future shingle episodes.

it is caused by a virus that remained in your system after you had chicken pox. there are medications for it, antiviral meds. Antibiotics do not help shingles.call your MD and get a prescription for the antiviral meds.

You can only treat the symptoms. Ask your Dr. for a topical anesthetic (usually with codeine). It worked well for me. After they heal you will itch a lot. If you are worried about scars try one of the scar treatment meds as soon as they start to heal. Best of luck.

its a virus and only anti viral therapy will help. it is a reactivated form of Herpes zoster virus 3. it stays latent in the bone marrow your whole life and you can ony treat the symptoms and cannot cure the virus.

it is reactivated by stressful stimuli like emotional stress, UV and immunosuppressive drugs or diseases like HIV or steroids.

wait it out, but some docs will give you an antiviral med to speed it along, and lots of painkillers, cause they hurt like HELL! Good luck
