Can anyone who speaks Italian suggest a knickname or phrase in Italian that would be appropriate to describe a tall, muscular middle-aged man who's a little chauvanistic and a self-proclaimed "ladies' man?" I want to say "machisimo" but I believe that's Spanish; any way it's kind of cliche.

Hi!
You are right. "Machismo" is Spanish, and it's "chauvinist" (the opposite of "Feminist").
Now... let's see. You seem to be asking for a physical definition of a man, aside of the attitude one.
- "Chauvinist" in italian is said: MASCHILISTA (pronounced MAHS-KEE-LEES-TAH).
- When it comes to a "Ladies man", if you don't mean it in a Chauvinistic way, I'd use the expression "Don Giovanni" (Like Spanish "Don Juan"). It's a very well known phrase: It is pronounced (DON YI-OH-VAH-NEE). It0s like the guy that every women are after.

Now, neither of the above definitions imply that this guys is tall or musculous. They imply a certian attitude and way of thinking.
If you want to reffer to someone attractive in italian you may use:
- BELLISIMO (BEHL-IS-EE-MOH): The most beautiful.
- BELLO (BELL-OH): Gorgoeus!
- MUSCOLOSO (MUSS-COHL-OH-SOH): with muscles.

You can used the adjective "SEX-APPEAL" too. It is said the same in Italian: UN UOMO CON SEX-APPEAL ("A man with sex-appeal)
Pronnounce: OON OOH-OH-MOH COHN SEX-APPEAL.

Goodluck!

Un cuccadores! It comes from the Northern Slang "cuccare" which means to hook up. It's someone who thinks that they can easily hook up with a lot of girls and brags about it. Usually it is used in its "hispancized" version for a sarcastic effect. Otherwise, you can use "Truzzo" although in its pure sense it denotes some one who has bad taste. The "truzzi", in general, also think they are real ladies men; kind of like a seventies medallion man. No taste, hairy chest, huge gold medallion and believe that all the girls think they are hot (EEEK!). The "truzzo da spiaggia" is a sub-species of the truzzo found on beaches. They have the medallion on their bare chest, wear banana hammock swim suits (speedos) and walk past all puffy chested, scraping their Dr Scholl sandals along the ground (also referred to as truzz-calep from the noise they make as they walk).
