if there is no evil, then how do you measure what is good. there would be ' not so good ', ' good ', ' very good ' and over time the not so good would become evil?

when the white eagle of the north,
is flying overhead,
and the browns, reds and golds,
of autumn lie in the gutter, dead,
remember then the summer birds,
with wings of fire, flaying,
come to witness springs new hope,
born of leaves decaying.

Concepts of 'Good' & 'Evil' are only what one has been programed to believe.
Newton...for every action, there is an equal yet opposite reaction. One can not exist with out the other! But it all boils down to what we were programed to believe. ; )

Does darkness exist? Can you invent a darkness generator and then shine darkness into light? No, of course not. Darkness seems very real at first glance , but really it is just the total absense of the energy we call 'light'.
Does cold exist? Can you actually generate coldness or only remove heat? (Ask a refridgeration engineer if unsure). Cold feels very real, but is in fact only a name we give to a lack of heat energy..
Evil is similar. Of itself, it has no specific energy. It is simply what you are left with when deeds are done in the total absense of compassion. Most things we call 'evil' are not done with the specific desire to cause suffering, they are just acts of self-gratification done with no regard to the consequences, ie with no compassion or care for the victims.
Evil is simply what remains when there is no compassion in the perpetrator, just as surely as darkness is what remains when there is no light, or cold remains where there is no heat.
We all know to use light and heat to get rid of darkness and cold, and similarly, there would be no evil if we could just raise our children with compassion in their hearts.

interesting..... good for what? or who?
It's all subjective. world war 2 killed many and you can argue it was an evil time. But it was also a time when medical innovation was at its best (i.e. pennicillin and surgical techniques). The people whose lives have been saved since, far outweighs the loss of life in that conflict.

Evil exists but for myself I do not tag a religious meaning to it. Every person has good and evil and how it shows is through intent. We can't be a whole person without having both. That is why when you like or love a person you accept everything about them.. even the bad.

you could say evil is in us all, but us with any common sense would not let the evil with in us out. the evil ones know who they are and most of us know them too. I'm talking about the ones that murder and harm for no other reason than their own perfectic lusts in their perfectic minds.

There is darkness and the degrees of light.
There is evil and the degrees of good.
There is nothing and the degrees of something.

we live in the realm of duality so good qualifys bad,in reality there is only oneness, the relationship between good and bad, hot and cold ,light and dark ,pain and pleasure can be seen as different sides of the same coin
