No

The word 'soul' stems from the Old English word ' sawol' meaning the spiritual and emotional part of a person. It appears in the year 725 in the tale of Beowulf . There are relatives of the word in many languages, for instance the Old Low Franconian 'sela', the Old Saxon 'siola' and the Middle Dutch 'siele', all meaning the same thing.

The word soulmate is a relatively new invention probably growing out of the romance novel or greeting card industry. Of course it means a person whose soul meshes happily with your own soul.

There are several viewpoints as to how to describe "soul mates" ... even on how to spell it! Some people spell the term as a whole word, soulmate and others, including us, prefer to keep it as two words, soul mate.

Soul Mate Descriptions

Reincarnation:
Some believe that a soul mate is someone with whom a person has shared other life times through reincarnation.
The soul mate could be a friend, business partner, parent, child, sibling, spouse or other family member. These soul mates can be of the same or opposite sex.

Other Half:
Others believe, like the ancient Greek philosopher Plato, that a soul mate is a person's "other half".

A dictionary definition is:
One of two persons compatible with each other in disposition, point of view, or sensitivity.

Someone for whom you have a deep affinity . A person temperamentally suited to another.

I believe it is a concept foreign to the Bible. Saying we have a "soul-mate" would imply our souls belong to someone and that isn't the case. The Bible does say our bodies/we become one when joined in marriage though.

A "soul-mate" would imply lasting relationship but according to the Bible there is no marriage (as we know it) in Heaven.

Hope that helps.

Besides, the soul-mate concept is human created. Out of the countless divorces, I bet many thought they were soul-mates at one time.

it works out b/c God wills it to work out. Somehow, some way, through the grace of God, you will find your soulmate. It's a Christian concept b/c God's grace shows us our life partner.

No "soulmate" is just a modern day term for someone you feel like you "belong" with.

no, it's NOT Christian....it's a new-age term. As Christians we are to follow His lead through prayer; He may lead us to a Godly man/woman or we could choose our own mates. It's not 'pre-determined'; that is a 'neat' thought though...but 'new age'.
