I was out performing last night (street magician) and this guy comes up to me between shows and we start talking. The guy claimed to be a magician and wanted to start doing magic on the street as a way of witnessing to people. I was polite but pretty much blew him off because he didn’t feed my hat.

You don’t pay the hat.
You don’t get to chit chat.

Anyway, this morning I got to thinking. What we (magicians) do as a form of entertainment is deceive people. Or in my case, I swindle them in fun games of chance (I do give them their money back after they take a pounding in the 3 Shell game). But a magician is out there to deceive folks. That is what we do.

Is this a good way to present a Christian message? What do you think?

Wow USBaptist that was almost hostile sounding. I don't think I'd want to do a gig in your church. I like to see people laughing and enjoying themselves.

Oh yea... I'm not a Christian. The other chap was. I thought I was pretty clear about that.

If there is a positive message behind it.

If yo wish to show how Satan makes things appear if they are so and they are not, that could be one way

Definitely not. Especially when you consider that for many years the Christian faith considered magic to be satanic.

I think it is wholly appropriate for any religion to recruit people by deception - at least then they'll know what to expect.

As long as you tell the audience before hand its not "magic", but its an illusion.

well as long as you are not ripping people off and are witness in to them in the process of your act it would be OK...

That's all they've ever done, really...

"Hocus pocus! This wafer is now the body of Christ!"
