Why isn't he still with his mother, he is really really young. Whenever training a dog it is all repetition and consistency. They have to go out frequently and be highly praised when he does good. A stern no when he does wrong and then take him outside to where he is suppose to go. Do crate training so he is out of harms way when you are gone and keep him in smaller area when home. I purchased the grass scented potty pads for the house (so he would learn the scent) and I also purchased a spray that you spray outside (smells like urine) it always made my puppies go. And always take the puppy out the same way so he knows where to go when he wants out. It takes time and patience and its going to be very hard with your puppy's age. I would buy the grass scented pads so at least he gets accustomed to the odor.

GitEmGang is right!!!!! This pup is far too young to be away form his mother. You will definetely have your hands full. The pup needs to be with his mother and littermates for a minimum of eight weeks, with 10-12 being preferable. This breeder is only trying to make a buck or get the puppies off their hands. No responsible breeder would ever let a puppy go at this age, for any reason. The pup is not even capable of controlling his bladder yet. My advise is to take the puppy back to the breeder. If you really want this puppy, and the breeder is willing to work with you, you should be able to get the puppy back in a few weeks when he is ready to leave his mother. Otherwise, prepare yourself for a long hard road, especially with a lab/pitt mix. Please be responsible, think of your puppy's future. If the breeder is unwilling to take the puppy back for a few weeks, you know that this person does not have the puppies best interest at heart.

First of all, It's 4 weeks old. Pups arn't supposed to leave there mothers for at least 10 - 12 weeks or they may get behavorial problems. Im shocked this puppy was sold to you, and the seller was not well trained in the breeding field at all if they think it's okay to remove it from the mother and the litter at only 4 weeks.

Obviously, you can't do much about it now. Dogs shouldn't start training untill they are at least 4 months old. A 4 week old puppy is like a 1 month old baby, it's just not capable of learning much at the moment.

Keep the puppy warm and safe because it's still very young. Make sure it is fed much water and food. I suggest taking the puppy to a veternarian to make sure he's okay, and ask them for more information :-)

Unless the mother did not survive the birthing, RUN as fast as you can with this pup back to the mother and let it latch on. Not only is it getting all of the essential nutrients (immune boosting) from mom but there is also critical imprinting that he needs from his pack. 4 weeks is WAY too young. I wont let my pups go until at least 9-10 weeks. Any breeder that lets them go sooner is a fool and asking for problems. BEWARE OF PARVO

He's too young to be away from his momma.

If you can't take him back for whatever reason, confine him in a spare room with newspaper on the floor: That should at least ease clean-up.

Think about house-training him after at least two more weeks, when he's actually started figuring out this moving-around business.

And who knows? Maybe by then he woull be looking for newspaper automaticly by then.

Good luck!

He should be spending the next month learning how to interact with his dam and littermates. Dogs that do not get this valuable learning experience tend to be dogs with alot of behavioral problems. Take it back to the 'breeder' for a minimum of another 4 weeks. Otherwise you are asking for trouble ESPECIALLY with a crossbreed such as this. I have taught obedience classes for 25 years and have seen MANY dogs with problems stemming from the fact that they were seperated to young.

Do not expect much at 4 weeks. They should still be with the mom and littermates until 8 weeks. They are not capable of housebreaking until then.

4 weeks shouldn't even be weaned yet. Proper care by the mom is important to it's personality.
