Men cannot give birth to living beings (we can make things, and we're needed to help create a child, but to the ancients, Life is brought forth through women alone).

Were/are some men so envious of this ability that they needed to assert the existence of a male deity who 'gave birth' to the universe?

davlynark: I think you misunderstood the question. Certainly your assumptions do not coincide with my intentions.

Exodus: You'll notice my mention of the ancients. Genesis was not written by modern men. Nor is it accepted as metaphor by all Christians.

Precisely! It was a conspiracy to empower male dominance! When the truth is, the duality between Female & Male essence has no superior or inferior to it. They are simply dependant on each other. For one can not exist with out the other. Neither can do it all, it takes both! ; )
I don't think this male creator is as 'ancient' as you believe it is. Shamanistic beliefs put no gender on the spirit world, when you look back several thousand years ago!
Good Q.... ; )

There is some truth in what you say. At one time there was as many female gods as male gods, origanized delegated the role totha tof serf. slave, inferor to women and she has basically only began to be free today in christianity, while Islam lags a centuries behind in freedom for females.

God didn't "give birth" to anything. God created everything out of nothing. He created man from the dust of the Earth. He didn't need help from anyone. Stop trying to bring things down to your level of understanding. There is no sin in God..Envy is sin..God has no need of it!

You do have a point. Women, after all, have enough power as it is. Men had to find a way to (try to) balance this out.

No. Has it ever occurred to you that the phrase "gave birth" should NOT be taken literally?
