It's hot, dangerous, and pretty much sucks. It all depends on your job and where you are stationed in Iraq. It ranges from being in gunfights and mortars all day to being relaxed to a point most of your deployment. You can have an easy job in A/C or a job outside in 125 degree weather. Some people have it nice and easy and some are in the thick of the action. It all depends. I'm sorry if this answer isn't more precise but I hope it gives you somewhat of a picture of what is over here. From sand covered tents to A/C filled trailers to fixed up buildings, from wearing your gear outside all day to relaxing in an office all day, from being mortared constantly to only worrying about a mortar or two a month.

It really just comes down to the job. Some jobs see action some dont. Over there IMO its just like in the states when it comes to the people. Some say we should be there some think otherwise.
Dont listen to the news. When I was over there we would watch the news and they would always show all the fighting portion of the war but they would never show how we got a long with the people in the city and all the charity work we did. You also never see the fact that the people over there do support us and dont want us to leave but hey we know the truth thats why we dont let the news or the liberals get us down.

I'm towards the end of my deployment. I didn't think it was that bad. We've had IED's go off on our convoys and we have also been mortared, but nothing to bad. The news makes it seem way worse, because they only show the bad stuff. Its starting to "cool down". The heat really isn't that bad, you kind of get used to in after a while. The Iraqi people are friendly and helpful. Their language is very complicated but you start to pick it up if you use it enough.

I've been here for just under a year...my tour wasn't that bad. The living conditions are good, we have shower and latrine facilities, chow hall isn't that bad. The worst thing for me was the boredom, once you get off work there isn't anything to do except for go to the gym and sleep. Where I am at, its not that bad at all. A lot of Soldiers are living out of tents and have to eat MREs everyday. I think it all depends what your job is and where you are going.

hahaha my friend was in an engineer batallion, He said the most exciting thing he did in a year was build picnic tables for troops to sit at. Pretty bad considering it was a million dollars a day to keep his unit there.

I'm neither but go to www.youtube.com and look up 'Iraq'. I've heard that soldiers post their own videos there---Some may be very violent and so be prepared.

Horrible. It's a madhouse, cause its sooo hot, and really loud. Plus, you can't speak their language, which sticks you in a rut. Also, you get bossed around by your boss a lot.
