My boyfriend likes to do his hair with really long spikes. He does it using simple bathroom soap. He wets the bar of soap, and scrapes a bit off the top with the back of his thumb nail. There is a product called Glued. I forget who makes it. It comes in a yellow tube. My brother uses it for his mohawk. It works great! The style stays all day without making your hair look dirty/greasy/gunky.

use flavorless jello. it really does work. and bedhead products, I've tried those, they won't even help me hold a curl! (my hair is naturally curly) use those gel things that are called hair glue or something, that works. And don't use conditioner, that way, your hair won't be as smooth and managable and it will be easier to make stiff.
