Make sure your shampoo is not weighing your hair down. I use Pantene products because they are not too expensive, they smell good, and my hair dresser says my hair stays in great shape.

When you use conditioner, do not rub it into your roots, it can cause oil...

Styling...use a volumizing mousse, you do not need more than a half dollar dollop, make sure you focus on the roots...dry your hair while you hold your head upside down, rubbing the roots, and gently tugging to make sure everything is dry. Once you are dry, flip it over, you should have some volume, spray a small amount of aerosol hairspray(Pantene makes one that still lets your hair move) in the top to keep your style in place.

I have stick straight hair, so I understand your dilemma. I also will pull it back into a low pony tail at the nape of my neck with a pretty barrete...and I have the swoopy, longer bangs, that go to the side. I keep it in lightly layered to help with the volume.

Good luck!!!

Get a cut with a blunt baseline and some light layers throughout.
What I mean is...on the ends of your hair, have it all in one straight line. This will make your hair look thicker on the ends. And the light layers will give you some body and volume throughout the top.
I don't have any pictures, but any stylist worth her salt should know what I'm talking about.

Get layers in your hair - I have very fine hair and layers really added volume. Also, wash your hair every other day. On the second day, your hair will have a lot more volume than after you washed it. I would try some volumizing shampoo and conditioner, too - like Sunsilk, Dove, or Herbal Essences. Good luck!
