My kids love hot dogs, and I know they are not very nutritious, so I am looking for some recipes that will be healthy for them (besides just dogs and bread)

these "casserole" type dishes sound great. and are a great way to "hide" veggies: grate carrots and mix it in with the dish; they bake in soft with little flavor, so your kids are getting a good vegetable with out realizing it. Also, even tho it is a starch, corn mixed in with the chili is very good. Red, yellow or orange bell peppers are good healthy additives as well. (my mother added all of these to meatloaf, casseroles, etc so we didn't know we were getting a healthy meal!)

My mom makes this great recipe with hot dog buns on the bottom of the pan, hot dogs cut up into small pieces, chili and cheese. Everything is mixed together and poured over the hotdog buns and baked in the oven until the cheese is melted and the chili is warm. Best of all the recipe can be made healthy when using low fat hotdogs, meatless chili, and whole wheat buns.

Barbecued Hot Dogs ingredients: * 4 pounds hot dogs or small cocktail hot dogs or little smoked sausages * 1 tablespoon melted butter * 1/2 cup chopped onion * 2 teaspoons prepared mustard * 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce * 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey * 1/2 cup ketchup * 2 teaspoons vinegar Preparation: Cut hot dogs into bite-size pieces; place in crockpot. 2 of my best
1 Slice the dogs most of the way through fill with mashed potatoes [ left over are fine] Top with cheese. Bake 350 15- 20 min till cheese melted [Stuffed hot dogs]

In a square casserole 2 cans chili 1 pound of hot dogs Spread 2 boxes of prepared jiffy corn muffin mix over top bake 350 till tooth pick comes out clean about 35 min [depending on how juicy the chili is] Extra add a layer of grated cheddar cheese on top of hot dogs

My sons favorite is something we call "Hot dog smores"

Take your hotdogs, slice them down the middle, put some cheese in the center, wrap the hotdog with one piece of lean bacon, then broil the hot dog until the cheese is melted and the bacon is crisp. VERY GOOD.

2 wieners, slices lengthwise (not all the way thru) [or sausages or bratwurst]
Cheddar cheese
Hot Dog Buns

1) Fry the wieners in skillet
2) When they are close to being done, lay them flat with the insides up, and place a generous amount of the cheddar cheese on top until melted
3) Towards the end of the frying cycle, toast the buns
4) Place weiners with cheese in toasted buns
5) Your preferred condiments
6) Serve with soft drinks, beer or boxes of Juicy Juice

My husband is a crazy man for hotdogs.....kids love them too.....I am the only sane one in this house! Anyway this is a favorite of them.....they take a hotdog and slice it open along the whole side....then they stuff it full of stuff....like cheese, pickles, ketchup, mustard and/or salsa......then they wrap the hotdog in a peice of bacon (to keep it closed) and stick a toothpic through it........throw it in the oven (on a pan )(400 F) for 20 min or until the ends of the hotdogs are toasty.

May not be healthy......but they love it!

I like them with chili on my hot dogs... but instead you can always cut up your hot dogs and put them in Mac and Cheese, add peas if they like them. My kids love them that way.
