Disclaimer: I am an agnostic, and to me, I don't care the religion of my doctor.

Based on this question, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjDSfW_NeQxjIr2ximlu10Dsy6IX?qid=20060902135743AANn1ag
a few persons said yes it would. One woman said she would only allow a Christian doctor to operate on her.

So my question is why would that matter, why not a Muslim Doctor or a Catholic Doctor or a Prodestant Doctor or an Agnostic Doctor or an Atheist Doctor?

Why not an Agnostic Nurse or an Atheist Nurse or a Muslim Nurse or a Catholic Nurse or a Prodestant Nurse?

To those who say it can only be a Christian to operate on you, why, please explain, I don't ask to ridicule your believes, just want to understand.

Does this carry over into business? I'm an Agnostic, would you do business with me? Would you take my money in a sale, or give me money to buy something from me?

I think I want the best in the business. That's all that matters.

OoOo thought provoking question - I like! Sorry I missed your other question - I'm about to make a generalization - not attacking anything and in no way insulting.

I have worked for several restaurants and retail stores that are owned and operated by Greeks. I have seen with my own eyes how they treat others of the same nationality with more respect and comrade. So much so that they have hired a Greek with no experience for a serious position than a non Greek with better qualifications

I think they - people with the same bond no matter what it is (nationality religion etc) - stick together.

When it comes to Doctors/Professionals - I could care less so long as they do their job. ~~granted I'd be a tad nervous if I woke up drugged from the dentist to see candles and satanic items around the room~~ LOL

To be honest, I would prefer that my surgeon were a man or woman who believed in God. I had a surgery last year and the physicians and nurses prayed wiith me after the surgery. My priest was waiting outside for me and he prayed with me before I went into surgery.

I went into the operating room with a prayer on my lips that was given to me by a Muslim friend. He asked that I say it and I did gladly.

if my doctor was agnostic that would not bother me nearly so much as an avowed athiest doctor. And yes, in anything but a life and death situation, I would be able to deal with an athiest or agnostic the same as a religious person.

Generally no and if it was an emergency and I were unconscious I wouldn't have a say anyway.

My chiropractor is devout and has the little Christian fish symbol on his business card but he doesn't preach and him and his wife are great people. On the other hand there is a local medical doctor who is constantly spouting fundamentalist right wing tirades by letters in the local paper, including strict creationism, is very judgmental against homosexuals, Atheists, Muslims, Pagans, feels women who get abortions are murderers, and what else - and I would never set foot in her office.

Imagine it: you've been hit by a bus, you have broken bones and are bleeding profusely. You are rushed to the ER. Are you actually going to stopand ask the religious persuasion of those who are working to save your life? I THINK not!

A doctor's competence is all that matters. Religion has nothing to do with how well he does his job.

I fail to understand the preoccupation with atheism on this site. Each group believes that they are right and neither group will change the opinion of the others, so what possible difference can it make? Christians seem to feel an obligation to convert everyone else to their belief system. Isn't going to happen - and why does it bother them that half the world doesn't share their beliefs? Live and let live...let us leave each other in peace!

In general, it wouldn't matter to me what religion a doctor is, as long as they are well qualified and will provide the services that I require. With that being said, if a doctor is going to let their personal religious beliefs (such as a Jehovah's Witness who doesn't believe in blood transfusions) get in the way of my treatment, when I don't believe the same, then I would not want that person to treat me. I believe when you enter the medical profession you are obligated to accept any standard practices that might assist in saving someone's life. If you don't, you should have a sound scientific reason for not accepting them, not a religious one.

For me it wouldn't, and this is a great question 'cause I can reference my favorite TV show ;) I'd rather have a doctor who knew what he was doing, period. Same thing with business or anything else; as long as someone knows their field the way they should, their belief system wouldn't be an issue for me.

*inspiration from devlsadvoct's answer: I'd like to request Dr Greg House next time I visit the hospital ;)

The doctor's qualifications are what matter most.

That said, I think I would ask for another surgeon if I happened to know that the first one was a real religious nutter. I don't trust those people in any kind of interaction.

1) I am a non-believer and it doesn't matter to me whether the doctor operating on me is a believer or a non-believer...

UNLESS that doctor openly displays fanatical patterns (I don't think that such doctors exist, but who knows...).

2) As for business, I would feel more comfortable with non-believers. If I had to work with some believers, I would ensure they aren't fanatical persons.

for me ,it doesnt matter the religion of my doctor and of course in business matter its the same to me .but as a muslim girl if there is a muslim female doctor is better than muslim male doctor . this matter is not related to his religion but muslim women dont like to be exposed on men whether they were muslims or anyone else .
in business prophet muhammed used to deal with christians ,jews and even pagens so there is no specific rule prevent us from dealing with anyone as matter of fact in al quran there is averse asks us to get along with others and get to know them it ( O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Awar )

I personally would not give a hoot of the religion. I personally believe that all religions are basically the same. The all want you to be a good person and do good things.
Anyhow, as long as the doc is handy with a scapal and has some expirence, that is all that matters to me.
