I think anyone who loses a job needs to be careful with money. I don't think you did anything wrong. I earn very little right now and can't give 10%.

Good heavens no - you didn't do a bad thing at all.
"Jesus, one day, was making a visit to the temple when, looking up he saw the people putting their offerings into the treasury. Some well-to-do folk were dropping offerings into the box. He noticed a poor widow put in two small coins. At this his eyes filled with joy and perhaps tears, and he said to his disciples, 'I tell you the plain truth. This widow, the beggar woman that she is, has put in more than all the others. For all these other people took from their superfluities what they put in as offerings to God, but his woman, in her extreme want, put in all that she had to live on.'"
Does not that remind us of the doctrine, repeated over and over again in the gospel, that what God is looking for from us is a gift, not just out of our pocket money, but out of our inmost being: the gift of self? That gift is more precious than all other things that we can offer him."
I hope you find another, better, job very soon. You're a lovely person and I doubt you could do a "bad thing" if you tried.

From the sounds of it you have been tithing for a long time. You give 100% of yourself at church and sometimes with circumstances you can only give what you have, that is okay. You need to save so you have money for nurishment and bills. Hang in there, God is helping you through this.

No, it's not bad at all.
God understands, and please don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You must first take care of yourself. The fact that you are concerned is more imprtant than the giving of your 10%.
Wait until you are in a position where your bills are met and you have enough money to get you through, then start giving again.
Please, Please Please, do not fall into the trap of those that say you must "sow a seed of faith" in order to prosper. (and in no way am I trying to say your church does this), but the majority of those, such as the TV Preachers (Benny Hinn, and the like) are only in the busincess of making money for themselves, and not doing God's work.

I don't think it states in the bible that you have to give 10%. The only thing it really states is that you pay it forward. Without a job, you should be conserving for yourself. Do your "10%" in good deeds- won't cost you a cent and you help someone out. Maybe volunteer more while looking for a job?

Did you ever wonder where all that money goes? Ever see a financial statement from the Church? Just curious...
It's amazing how God is all powerful, yet he never has enough money.
Too bad about your job, I feel for you. Perhaps you should call on that church that you gave so much of your money to...fair is fair, right?

Honey, I don't believe that giving money to a man will get you to heaven. God isn't looking for how much you give a man, but what is in your heart.
This is one of the many reasons I do not believe in religion. It is based on fear and control. if you live in your heart and make good choices, do you really think that God will punish you? Heck no. He loves each of us unconditionally.
Just relax and keep doing what feels right in your heart, not what others tell you.
God Bless you

Madam, I am sorry you have lost your job, but I am sorrier still that in this time of trouble your faith seems only to offer you judgment rather than comfort. To everything there is a season, and there will be a time of tithing, but now is a time of insuring your own health and well-being.
Consider finding a new way to look at your faith, because if you continue to live this overly self-critical existence, the only gift faith will give you is anxiety.

Remember that God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He doesn't "need" anything from anyone. He loves you no matter what amount you do, or don't, put in the collection plate. It is the love of your heart He desires most of all.

God doesn't care how much you give. You are giving money to your church, not to God. He is tithed with good works, not cash. Besides, there is more to showing faith than giving your 10%. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
