I went away for a week and left my cat at home, but my dog with family. When I brought my dog back, the first thing the cat did was attack her.. and now we either have to have the dog or cat locked up, because they won't stop fighting. Why is the cat behaving this way?

Before the cat never used to attack the dog randomly, only when she was being bothered by the dog..

I think your cat is being territorial. When the dog left the cat took over all of the home as it's territory.
The cat and dog may need to be re-introduced. If possible seperate them and let them be together for short periods of time. When they start to fight separate them. Give them a time out, each in their own room. It may take some time and patience till they become re-acquainted and establish their pecking order.

you haven't stated even if this attack change into unprovoked. change into the canines merely mendacity there and the cat attacked or change into the canines sniffing or drawing near the cat? The cat would merely have had adequate of the canines and is now placing its personal obstacles. The cat would also no longer be feeling nicely if there's a unexpected replace in habit. attempt allowing the cat to have a probability-free area the position it may get remote from the canines. both enable the cat get precise of entry to to a intense position or yet another room the position it should be on my own and if the concern persists, confer along with your vet to make confident the cat isn't in some variety of soreness or soreness.

your cat probably feels that you favour the dog because your cat thinks you took the dog with you and left it home. i suggest giving the cat an dog equal amounts of attention and trying to gain back the cat's trust.
