How come some dogs are so stupid? Is there anything i can do to make mine respond better?

Dogs will not respond to owners they do not trust or respect. If your dog is not obeying your commands, it's not because it's stupid, it's because it doesn't see you as an "alpha" (the head of its pack). Dogs will not respond to owners who scream, yell, throw things, hit them, frighten them or generally behave like idiots; or owners who are inconsistent in their expectations and demands.

We suggest that you take some training classes yourself on dog behavior, and then approach your dog with consistent, firm, calm commands. When you're in control of yourself and can project quiet confidence and authority, your dog will follow suit.

What makes you classify your dog as stupid? Has he been taught any basic obedience commands? All dogs can benefit greatly from basic obedience lessons. Start by finding out what motivates your dog. It could be treats, a squeaky toy, or simply petting and praise. What kind of dog do you have? How old? I will need more information to help you further, but a good start would be to start practicing commands like sit, down, stay and come. These are the very basics, and your dog should catch on quickly. Keep training sessions short (up to 10 minutes maximum). You always want training to be fun for the dog, and never let him lose interest in what you are doing. If you notice him getting bored or not paying attention, give him a command he knows well to end the training session on a positive note.
