There you go, cutter, preacher just gave you the answer. These arrogant clergy think the rest of us are just so much mutton. Do see why organized religion disgusts me?

We need to fellowship with other like-minded believers; going off and studying on your own can lead to strange ways of thinking because you can obsess about some little aspect of (whatever) faith, while talking and discussing with others can show you the bigger picture. A fellowship of believers is a good idea, but there's always eventually a need for someone to take the lead, if only to mediate in disagreements.
In Christianity, the house-church movement seems to be adressing your concern; but modern life seems to require more structure than centuries (or indeed millenia) ago.

Sometimes I think yes. This would be the way to go as long as everyone was willing to reason together.

Do we not understand that we alone are responsible for our beliefs? Come judgement day God is not going to say ... " Oh well so and so told you different... well OK come on.

That is not going to happen anymore than your parents would have tolerated you following someone else's rules over theirs.

A pastor is a shepherd, a guide to a life in Christ. Sheep that are left to their own will fall off the cliff.

Yes. The catholic church is more of a business than a church.
