I don't know depends on the maturity she shows.. my son who is 13 comes to this site a lot and he just ignores the questions he feels are not nice... it's a dad issue... if you feel she is not mature enough then tell her that due to the nature of certain people she should not be in this site...

I dont think my two girls 10 and 11 years old , know about yahoo answers but I would definitely not allow them to use/view it . Its a real shame that after yahoo came up with this idea where solutions to common problems can be found , the idiots turn it into a free for all place to vent their anger , inspire racism etc ...

yep it's a real shame but thats modern times for you I'm afraid .

you could try diverting their attenton to something like a ppier to pier chat program , dont cringe at this , bear in mind you can "vet" which people are in their contact list ...just check out their "buddy list" from time to time to keep an eye on them .....here better still buy a webcam and encourage them to "see" who they are talking to ...that way you and they know that its not one of the sicko's who frequent and take advantage of sites such as this ......

i sincerely hope that in some way my own thoughts on this help you atleast a little .... best of luck to you fella ....

Tim

I don't think you should ban her, she may need answers to relevant questions. Better here than myspace right? I would say just monitor what she does while on this site and If the computer isn't already out in the open (not in her bedroom) then I suggest doing that also. Good luck

YES.... due to the factors you mentioned and also due to the racism, the threatening nature of some people, and the general craziness of some of this sites frequent visitors. You can't protect her from the world and she will learn these things with time but not at 13.

Well really at age 13 they shouldn't be on alot of sites on the internet except possibly checking their emails and anything that has to do with helping them with their homework cause lord knows this generation has parents that don't PARENT. I am not saying you aren't I am just saying that I am 25 and when I become an elder as in senior citizen who knows what generation before me is gonna be like...lol It is a scary thought.

I'd go with a yes on that. Get her to spend her time on her homework or doing something more productive. I waste half my life on here and if I would have spent this much time on a computer when I was 13, I would have failed my GCSE's for sure.

Do not forget what you were like at 13 we were away ahead of what our parents thought we should be like so know I would not ban her be open after all she can do this site from the library and obviously she knows it exists and you know what that means

I guess it all depends on how mature she is. Its hard to shelter them from the world. If she is a good kid and is giving you no problems then I wouldnt worry much. Kids are alot smarter than we give them credit for, she probaly ingores the stuff your worried about already. Just be sure to make her aware of the preditors out there and not to give out any personal info no matter what.
