From the Calgary Sun newspaper ....
FIGHT NOTES:
-The UFC has come under fire recently for its low purses paid to fighters. Many undercard fighters are getting as little as $5,000 to fight. By contrast, light-heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell made $250,000 for disposing of Renato (Babalu) Sobral at last week's UFC 62 in a mere 95 seconds. That's $2,631.58 per second. Chuck is obviously not complaining about his paycheque.

Dana White said in an interview that the fighters make more then we think. With that being said, I think the fighters at the bottom are grossly underpaid and need to be paid more. A Pride fighter at the bottom of the pay scale will make around $20,000 for a fight. If the UFC wants to attract better fighters, then they need make it worth their effort.

Why are these "fighters" competing to begin with? If it is for money, glory, and for putting on a good show, then yes, they deserve higher pay checks for the abuse they put their bodies through.
While if they fight for honor or for representing their respective systems and/or lineages as was originally intended, absolutely not - it would be a privilege to compete. Seriously, though, how many fighters in UFC actually have a root system anymore anyway?
They're there for show. Pay them comparable to boxers.

Tell that to Mike Tyson who had a 91 second knockout.

UFC is the next boxing and the market will cause the purses to increase although I still like Boxing.

These guys should be getting paid as much as pro football players. They train harder, they put on a better show, they are way tougher.

I think they are severely under paid while other pro athletes are way OVERpaid.

I'd be afraid they would raise the ticket and PPV costs. I think the salary is reasonable. I'm sure he gets some money for commercials, merchandise with his name on it, and appearances.

No. Fighting is a thug sport. They shouldnt get paid more than $5,000. $250,000 is insane. To beat somebody senseless? Get a real job.
