Did they want to undermine some competing religion, like the way Christians rubbished Annwn, the Celtic heaven, by calling it "hell"?

listen christians didn't name devil as Satan. Christianity is full of lies, did you know the recent discovery of Jesus and his mum are buried in India. so Jesus didn't die at the crucifix.

I am very curious. Where did you get the idea that the early Christians assigned the name Satan to O Day Star, Son of Dawn? I can find no such statements anywhere.

In my search I find that the Name Satan did exist long before there were any Christians. In fact the Christ was not yet manifested when this name appeared.

Why don't you try to see the name backwards and do a Yahoo search, I did and got 455,000 hits..

I suggest this because the name Devil backwards is lived and the Devil once was in the position to live but as the Devil, no more opportunity. Also to support this the word Evil backwards is live. Evil will not live and has no hope to live.

I do not remember all for it was a long time ago but I think I remember Nata has something to do with source, or origin, or center. [please do not quote me on it OK}

Try search and have a good day OK

I question the accuracy of your source material on this one.

While it is true that Christianity subverted many native religious traditions through relatively devious means, I seriously doubt that the word 'Satan' can be traced back to a goddess reference. Why wouldn't they just make Satan a woman? That would cause a much more direct association with the divine feminine, and would better serve to undermine any native goddess tradition.

Be careful with the plethora of popular volumes on goddess traditions. Very few of them begin from an honest point of view. They tend to start with a political agenda, and proceed to manipulate evidence to support a biased conclusion.

The early Christians didn't name him.

Genesis 3:1
NOW THE serpent was more subtle and crafty than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made. And he, Satan, said to the woman, Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden?
