Why do some people have a hard time expressing love. I have heard and read here that some say "My Dad or Mother never said they loved me. How can you NOT do that to a child?

Why do some find this so hard to say "I love You"

Not all families are expressive; mine wasn't. Yes I know my parents loved me but they weren't the hugging and kissing type. So I'm not either.. for me it's a large effort for me to do that. I've learned over the years to be able to accept hugs and that did take a great amount of effort but the saying of I love you is still quite hard and doesn't happen often; but that doesn't mean the feeling isn't there.

I am a person that was never expressed love from my parents when I was growing up. But I do express my love to my daughter and tell her that I love her. It is hard for me sometimes to express my feelings to older people and to tell them how I feel about them. Maybe it is because of the lack of affection that I did not receive of my parents. But I manage and am trying to break that barrier.

I don't say it often, and I don't know why. It just feels sort of phony. I am a kind person and generous, but it's not something I say. I think actions often speak louder than words. I have a family member that says it and it sounds like they are just saying it because they feel they "should". So it doesn't mean that much to me. A person who demonstrates love is more honest, I think, than someone who merely says it.

Some of it can be upbringing. My parents weren't big on the "I love you." all the time mush, so I'm not big on it. I do consciously make efforts to tell those around me that I love them...but it is an effort.

Some fear the commitment and responsibility that goes along with saying those three little words.

Perhaps because "some" people, the "some-what"(?), "I know not what", have their "love" rooted in Mt 22:36-40 "law law"; which doesn't love "you" made perfect, strengthened, stablished, and settled by the God of all grace. Rather what such law law folk love is "their end": grace + law(added) = life + death(added) = a dead end, which is notably "their end" shall be according to "their works", and notably for playing "their part" in the shew, which speaks evil(law) of God(Grace)

in the "shew" purposed to "shew who is the blessed and ONLY Potentate" in his "times" of law and grace, is obviously "grace".

The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

well, my parents never said they loved me but i know they do....i think it has something to do with the family lifestyle and their cultural background. from my observation, most asians do not express their love to one another....i mean in a parent-child relationship....as for lovers, most do.

is difficult to say i love u....even if u feel like saying......maybe that is the reason....or because in our century in modern world we forgot about the small things...that means a lot like these simple three words i love u

My parents too. They have never told me or my brother but I know they do. It just feels weird when you start to say it after years of not saying it. I don't say "I love you" either to my parents or my brother. I'm sure they know I do. I mean like duh =)

Because they have a hard time feeling it, too.
