Humans evolved as hunter gatherers, which means, they ate meat when it was avilable, say every couple of weeks after a big hunt, and in between that time it was mostly fruits and vetables.

Basically because I keep kosher and I can't get to a butcher all that often, I have pretty much been sticking with this diet, though not on purpose, but it seems to be working out for me so far. Does anyone think this is a bad idea?

There is no way that you can say whether a hunter-gatherer diet was healthy or not. The reason is that the hunter-gatherer's diet was very unpredictable. In some places nature provided a large variety of fruits, nuts, berries, roots, and edible leaves. In other places, and in other seasons, the pickin's were scarce.
You're somewhat off on the meat thing too. You're correct in saying that the tribe would bring down a large animal occasionally, but the early people also ate small animals, birds, snails, grubs, snakes, caterpillars, worms, etc.
Before agriculture, life was feast or famine. There was always way too much or not enough
Eating a piece of meat every week or two is not sufficient unless you're getting pleanty of protein from high-protein foods.

As long as you don't binge. Make sure that you try to get the protein you need when you're not eating meat (in tofu, or beans, or nuts) that way you body gets what it needs. Also, make sure you're getting all of your vitamins, when you have meat. Other than that, it would be just like being a vegetarian, but having meat every once in a while.

You need to make sure you are getting enough protein in between. I use a program to track this, you might want to try.

But you will have to have plenty of beans, soy products, and nuts to get the right amount of protein.
