You'll be just fine.
Think of this as a new experience. There will be nice and unfriendly kids wherever you go so just stick with the nice ones :-)
As far a lockers go... Embrace them! My high school didn't have lockers because people supposedely stored drugs in them so I had to carry around a heavy backpack all day long.

First I suggest that you practice opening a combination lock. If the school provides the locks be sure that you understand how to work them. This will help you keep you from feeling embarrassed. Remember that if the combination is 12-6-32 you start at 0. Turn right to 12. Then go left to 6 but PASS 6 and go all the way around once. Then turn right to 32. I taught in a catholic high school and there were a lot of kids that had no idea how to open their locks.
The first couple days you may feel lonely; especially at lunch. In the class before lunch maybe you could ask someone when they have lunch. Tell them that you are new and ask if they can tell you which line to go in or where is the best place to sit. Lunch is hardest because you just do not know where to go and you feel weird just joining strangers. If the public school is big then a lot of people do not even realize that you are a new student.
I now teach in a public school and what I have found is that public school and private schools are not all that different. There are still kids who want to do well and those who do not really like school at all. After the first couple days you will start to make friends and feel more comfortable.
You will be fine. Ask a teacher if you get lost; sometimes kids are known for telling you to go to the 4th floor when there are only 3 floors in the school!
Good luck.
