As the Niebuhr prayer states:
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The Courage to change the things I can,
And the Wisdom to know the difference.

It'll still be you looking back at you in the mirror whether you do them or not. Why don't you use your mind to work out who you are and what makes you happy while you're doing the mundane- it's not like if you make a mistake the planet will blow up!
Peace is not in what you do, but in how you do it, with what energy you're using to do it, and knowing that the outcome was worth the work.
If you only look right in front of you, you may walk over a cliff, a little perception won't interfere with your inner balance, nor your tasks.
And also, remember what it says about 'idle hands'. So choose wisely what you do, how you do it, and with what expectation you have at the end- that way unexpected surprises are kept to a mininum.

Yeah well good luck with that. It takes a great deal of discipline to focas on what what's right in front of you.
Consider the linen closet. Your job is to clean it out. You open it up and start. The first thing you take out is a stack of sheets. You refold them and notice that there is a stain on one of them. You take that to the laundry to put on a stain remover and rewash it. When you are putting the stain remover back on the shelf you knock off the dryer sheets accidently and they fall behind the dryer. You have to move out the dryer to get the box of sheets and you find a great deal of dryer lint. You decide to clean that up so you go to the closet to get the vacumn. You decide to put in a new vacumn bag because its a lot of lint. You get out the flashlight to find the bag only to find it needs batteries. You go to the drawer where you keep batteries and cannot find the ones you need. You get your keys, get in the car and go to the store to get batteries. While you are looking for the batteries, you run across the shelf paper and decide that you really need to paper those linen closet shelves. You buy some paper, and some baskets to organize things, and on the way home you go through a drive through and pick up a sandwich for lunch. You get home and sit down to eat your sandwich and watch some tv. You close your eyes for just a few minutes to take a nap and when you wake up, you find that you have spent the whole day getting nothing done. You decide to go out with friends for the evening because now you are completely overwhelmed with the complexity of your tasks. Everything stays like it is for weeks until you start cleaning out the linen closet again.
Start one task, finish it completely before you do ANYTHING else or you will never have any peace.

I think if all you ever wanted from life was to do chores, and you had someone else to take care of the more complicated things for you, then you could certainly have a peaceful life that way.

One step at a time sounds peaceful to me. We always worry about the future but if we focus on what is happening right now and what we feel we should get done, the future takes care of itself just fine.

No, a person with a list could never achieve inner peace even by ridding themselves of one. They are needed by them for a reason. Lists are for those who are in turmoil of some sort. They can't concentrate on the things that need to be attained as they are preoccupied with matters that may be most important to their inner peace but are not facing or dealing with them. Then they could perform to the best of their ability as they would achieve inner peace throughout their body and soul with a comfort that is known only to those who truly care and love by putting these other aspects first in order on their "list" instead of on a back burner to build with great intensity that can't be handled at all.....actually priorities are critical to life, it helps instead of striking out at those who are most important to you.........

I don't think its as much the chore that is in front of you, but the frame of mind you live with. Any job or chore seems lighter if your mind is at ease with especially yourself. Most times its not directly what you see that causes the "unease", it is the underlying turmoil and underlying issues that brings out the tension. Being happy with yourself, and being able to smile makes everything in life that much easier to deal with. Have a great day!

Keep it simple is good. I would think that it also depends on the chore. If you have inner peace anything you do you will be at peace.

No... because life is a continuing thing. If you only did what is in front of you now only by the end of the day you would have a multitude of related and accumulated factors to deal with. The trick is to prioritize.
Peace and Love to you.
