Well, a lot of our history is sexist. I mean the geneology of women were rarely documented. That's why woman just seem to spontaneously pop out of nowhere in the early chapters of the bible. When Jesus came, woman weren't considered lower than men anymore. Women were the first to find the tomb of Christ empty. Jesus challenged most of the Jewish laws at the time and started a new covenant. However, no one really thought of sexism at that time. I guess you can say that sexism didn't really exist back then. But during modern times, woman wanted to be treated with more equality. I don't think people really thought about it all that much back then.

No. Look around you - do you find the creation of the Earth silly? It is estimated that the probability of the formation of the universe to a point to where it could sustain life is around 1 in 10^40,000. Do you think that just so happened with no God? I think that's silly. If that is so, is it unbelievable that a woman was create from someone's rib? I don't think so.

And that is not supposed to be sexist. I could discuss this further if you are interested.

Actually, I find this very romantic. The intimacy possibilities between a man and woman goes much farther than physical. When there is a spiritual connection, it goes beyond what can be described in human terms.

I don't find the idea any sillier than other "myths" and stories that I've heard anywhere else.

Yea I do. I mean I would be pretty ticked off If I woke up and had a rib missing and a woman by my side. What a waste of rib huh?

I'm not a Christian, but it makes no more sense than the idea of God making Adam out of dust. You're right though, it is sexist. It also makes the idea of the two of them having sex kind of weird, almost as if Adam was having sex with himself.

It might seem a bit sexist if not seen as the miracle it really is.

Actually I find it a bit romantic.
She was not taken from a footbone to be walked on or looked down upon.
She was not taken from a headbone to rule over him.
She was taken from a rib to be by his side and he by her side as sweethearts and helpers to each other.

I suspect that only after thirty or more years of marriage to one special person whill you be able to comprehend the beauty of being side by side as soul mates.

God intended them to have a special relationship, but unfortunately that has been eroded through time and "modern" behavior.

I hope you find out what it's like.

If it helps, we might find out that God is a lady.

Ok maybe not.

It might be silly but after all our God has a sense of humor doesn't he (she? )?

I feel that it is not sexist. I guess this is God's way of saying we men are incomplete until we find our *rib*. Then we're finished.

Well, DUH... yeah. 'Silly' is a pretty charitable way of putting it. Just as silly are:

*  a universe in which all that exists are the earth and heaven
*  solid 'firmament' structure (the sky) separating the earth from heaven (terrarium earth)
*  talking snakes (with legs) and donkeys
*  shepherd staff turning into an asp
*  demons chased out of people and into pigs
*  friendly spirits
*  evil spirits
*  walking on water
*  multiplying loaves and fishes
*  food falling from the sky
*  conception by a ghost
*  people raising from the dead
*  the sun stopping in its tracks
*  parting seas
*  people being bodily sucked up into heaven (which, by the way, lies on the 'other side' of the sky)
*  world-wide flood that drowned the earth to a depth of 40 feet above the tallest mountain
*  creating Adam from a dust bunny
*  magical tree of knowledge
*  god speaking from a burning bush
*  ritual cannibalism, by eating god in the form of a cracker

It is sexist....but thats not even the start of it...Think about this...Eve was the one who condemmed Humanity...Sampsons wife was the one who betrayed him and cut off his hair...A woman asked for the head of John The Baptist....Mary Magdeline was a prostitute...Every story about women in the bible shows them in a bad way.
