There is indeed only One True God. And God makes the rules. man dose not... The only way to come to God is The Way He proscribes.

Do it God's Way, by His Word and Will or suffer the consequences of your own choises. Don't blame God if He rejects you for rejecting Him.

There is only One Way.... The Way.

note to Jim B... There are many writtings because mankind keeps trying to do it man's way not God's way.

If there is one true god, it is Love.

And most people do not grasp this because some people exploit faith for the power it gives them over people. By creating religion, ritual, legalism (rules and regulations) and so on they distract people away from the true faith and channel them into a path where they depend upon these 'authorities' to sort out the confusion inherent in such power-structures.

Only when we realize that Love is our common heritage do we see beyond our own rituals and recognize and respect others as kindred spirits.

Love conquers all.

Your question could be used for a great statment as to why there is no god and it is all a fairytale. If there is or was a god then all the writtings would be the same.

we know that tens of millions of Romans worshiped Zeus and his friends, and to them they built magnificent temples. The ruins of these temples are popular tourist attractions even today. Yet we know with complete certainty that these gods were imaginary because no one worships Zeus any more.

Much more recently, we know that the Aztec civilization believed in their gods so intensely that they constructed huge temples and pyramids. In addition, Aztecs were so zealous that they were sacrificing hundreds of human beings to their gods as recently as the 16th century. Despite the intensity, however, we know today that these gods were completely imaginary. The Aztecs were insane to be murdering people for their gods. Killing a person has no effect on rainfall or anything else. We all know that.

If that's the case then why is there a clash of civilizations? Could be because the clerics interpreted it in this way to gain political capital out of it. Or simply because the followers in old times were more xenophobic than they are today.

On second thought it occured to me that the clash of civilizations is still going on. So my view would be that there are moderates and extremists in all ages who interpret god in their own fashion.

As to Jim B's answer I would comment that the argument about Romans is correct but not about Aztecs, as they were completely blotted out by European invaders. Could this be a cause of their obliteration that they were offering human sacrifice to their gods?

i don't really buy that arguement. i think there are many gods--all with their own attributes. i find it hard to believe that there is only one god. if that's true, which is the one true god? i think that very question is what makes it so difficult to believe.

I see not reason to believe that there is only one diety in the universe.
