I babysit for a teenage girl that plays on one of the school's sports teams. Her schedule shows her having gym class at the end of the day, and then she has her practice right after school. When is the best time for her to eat a power bar, before class, or before practice/after class? Thanks.

Actually here's what she should be eating:

Before practice: At least 2 hours before, have a meal, snack or drink that is high in carbs.

After practice: Immediately after have a snack that is both protein and carbohydrate. This would be a good time for that Power Bar. A 4:1 (4g carbs to every 1g protein) would be the best and I think Power Bar is a good one for that.

I'd probably consume the power bar 30 minutes before her team practice. This way, the energy that the power bar provides (mostly quick burning carbohydrates) will be available for her to use. Assuming her practice starts at about 3pm, the glycogen reserves from her lunch will probably have been depleted and the carbohydrates from the bar will keep her energy up.

You may want to experiment. Some people have trouble digesting power bars so be sure you consume it with a beverage for best absorption.

Also be sure she has something to eat after her practice so she can restore her energy levels and be ready "to go" next time.

a pair of situations each week I also have a Cliff Bar (all organic and organic) - I in basic terms make certain the type I even have would not have severe fructose corn syrup or any of that... i haven't had a topic with constipation, yet I do persist with it with an excellent glass of water, milk or juice just to be sure... solid luck! :-)
